The Safe Alliances for Everyone (SAFE) Task Force is inviting the Grand Rapids community to contribute ideas aimed at reducing gun violence. On Tuesday, October 29, local organizations and individuals will have the opportunity to present their innovative proposals during the Pitch and Highlight Night.

“The upcoming Pitch and Highlight Night is more than just an event; it’s an opportunity,” said Staff Liaison Asante Cain. “We understand that the most impactful strategies to address violence in Grand Rapids often come from within our own community. The SAFE Task Force is here to fund and support these initiatives, offering a platform to turn dreams into practical solutions that build safer, more prosperous neighborhoods.”

This event serves as a platform for community members to share solutions that can help create safer, more prosperous neighborhoods. The Pitch and Highlight Night will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at GRPS University, located at 1400 Fuller Ave NE. Participants will compete for a partnership with the SAFE Task Force and a chance to receive up to $10,000 in funding. Five winning proposals will be selected for collaboration with the City to implement their ideas.

Proposals must focus on reducing violence and gun violence in Grand Rapids, particularly among youth aged 12-24. Programs and interventions should be designed for implementation between March and September 2025 and demonstrate how they align with the recommendations of the SAFE Task Force, the Police Department’s Strategic Plan, and/or the City’s Strategic Plan.

Interested individuals and nonprofits can submit their proposals to the SAFE Task Force until October 21 through this link.
