The name may be different, but the taste is still the same.

HopCat’s Crack Fries are now called Cosmik Fries.

The beer bar chain changed the name of its Crack Fries after receiving feedback from guests.

“We listened and respected the feedback from our guests who said the name was affecting their families,” said Joe Sonheim, marketing director of Grand Rapids-based BarFly Ventures, the corporate parent of HopCat. “Some may have had some experience with crack cocaine.”

HopCat’s Cosmik Fries are named after the Frank Zappa song “Cosmik Debris,” according to a post by WZZM TV 13. The bar chain’s founder, Mark Sellers, is a fan of the late musician, the station says.

Sonheim said the recipe for the fries has not changed. Cosmik Fries are beer-battered with cracked black pepper seasoning.

Food Network magazine previously named Crack Fries one of “America’s 10 Best French Fries.”
