A family is planning to open a European tavern in town where Latin-Asian restaurant Georgina’s recently operated.
Damir Duratovic and his sons, Dino Duratovic and Denis Duratovic, bought the building that housed the former Georgina’s in Grand Rapids, at 724 Wealthy St. SE, from owner Anthony Craig last week. Craig closed Georgina’s on Dec. 12 after it had been open less than a year, citing personal stressors.
The Duratovics plan to open a new restaurant at the location called Zivio. They will open it in mid-January or early February after completing “minor paint and décor updates” to the building.
“We have been looking to open a new restaurant in the Wealthy Street corridor for the past two to three years,” Dino Duratovic said. “We love the community here and felt that this was an opportunity we could not pass up on.”
Zivio will be a “modern European tavern” that will serve eastern European-, central European- and Mediterranean-influenced dishes.
The trio have acquired a liquor license and will offer beer, wine and cocktails.
“‘Zivio’ in Bosnian means ‘live on,’ and it is how we celebrate cheers to each other,” Dino Duratovic said. “We are excited to bring a different/new cuisine to the Grand Rapids area.”
The Duratovic family also owns and operates Bosna Express in Wyoming, at 128 28th St. SW, and have worked in the restaurant and hospitality industries for many years.
