While most ArtPrize entries are vying for a portion of the $500,000 in prize money awarded at the end of the competition, an entry from a local company is focused on setting a world record.

Comfort Research, with the help of its public relations firm Lambert Edwards & Associates, is vying to break a Guinness World Record by building the world’s largest beanbag.

The company, which sells Big Joe brand beanbag furniture, has set about constructing a beanbag approximately 24 feet x 26 feet and weighing in at 1,300 pounds.

The beanbag will be located on the roof of Lambert, Edwards & Associates, at 47 Commerce Ave. Comfort Research is working on completing the beanbag in time for the start of ArtPrize at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 20.

A Guinness World Record adjudicator from New York will be in town to measure the bag and officially determine if Comfort Research has set a new record. The measurement will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Update: Comfort Research officially broke the Guinness World Record by creating the world’s largest bean bag.
