Richmond Park will close for the summer after this weekend, but not before throwing a blowout pool party – for canines.

The Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation Department is hosting Wag ‘n’ Wade Dog Swim on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Richmond Pool, 1101 Richmond St. NW. Capacity for the event is 75 dogs. Registration is required . This event is free.

Dog owners are able to enter the zero-depth entry area to their knees with their pets. The Parks & Recreation Department will provide tennis balls and waste clean-up bags. Owners need to bring proof of vaccinations and a leash to bring their pets in and out of the pool area.

Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation Director David Marquardt sees Wag ‘n’ Wade as a way to build a stronger community through social interaction. “We’re continually building new opportunities for these interactions to occur,” he said.
