The success of past
Design Home collaborations has hinged
on more than just dynamic design, astute craftsmanship
and discerning décor. A distinct chemistry between
members of the design team provides the foundation for
what is to come. This year, a new component is having
a definitive impact on the project: Homeowners.
While Design Home
2006 is being constructed for a family who has inspired
structural and interior decisions since this venture’s
inception, the finished residence opens on October
5, 2006 for a premier VIP unveiling, artisan reception
and benefit dinner. All proceeds from this inaugural
showing and a subsequent one-day only public open house
will benefit DeVos Children’s Hospital.

First seen embraced in its seven-acre woodland haven,
Design Home 2006’s European-inspired estate warrants
speculation. But for the first time, Design Home isn’t
emerging as a spec house, the pet project of an architect,
builder, artisans, contractors and interior designers,
crafted foremost for a fundraiser and public tours.
From Grand Rapids architect Wayne Visbeen’s first
signature sketch, the creation of Design Home 2006 began
with a family in mind. This home incorporates the daily
routines, dreams and idiosyncrasies of a husband, a wife
and three active boys.
It will represent the poignant orchestration of design
collaborations that are both professional and personal.
And it may clarify to many why constructing a dream
home from wish list to reality, guided by a skilled and
inspired creative team, is worth every cent. Progress Reports

VIP Unveiling
Design Home 2006 was debuted in October with a VIP reception
to benefit the DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation.
