City Guide was born in 1980 as "From the Editors of Grand Rapids Magazine: 1980-81 Bestway’s Apartment and Condominium Report.” In 1981, that title was shortened to "Newcomer's Guide." We settled on “City Guide” in 1983.
In 2005, we expanded this annual mid-summer supplement to fill the entire July issue with resources on the arts, entertainment, recreation, dining — the sights, sounds, flavors and personalities that make this town unique.
The complete list of “Best of GR” readers’ poll winners in 100 categories and two special 2-for-1 dining coupons will have you scouring the city for new places to explore all year long.
This year’s guide looks at the transformation of downtown Grand Rapids’ entertainment scene and some of the people who’ve made it happen. The issue also includes the magazine’s annual rankings of school districts in West Michigan with a plethora of information for parents.
