The 2006-07 Grand Rapids Magazine City Guide is your ultimate sourcebook for fun in the city!

A lot has changed in GR since 1980, not the least of which is Grand Rapids Magazine’s City Guide. City Guide was born in 1980 as "From the Editors of Grand Rapids Magazine: 1980-81 Bestway’s Apartment and Condominium Report.” In 1981, that title was shortened to "Newcomer's Guide." We settled on “City Guide” in 1983.

In 2005, we expanded this annual mid-summer supplement to fill the entire July issue with resources on the arts, entertainment, recreation, dining — the sights, sounds, flavors and personalities that make this town unique.

Also included is a look at the ties that bind Michigan’s second city to either Motown or Chi-town, an exploration of the Grand River as inspiration for artists creating public works of art in the city, an update on the urban living trend currently sweeping downtown, and a humorous look at the GR dating scene — written by our happily married humor columnist, Dwight Hamilton.

The complete list of “Best of GR” readers’ poll winners in 100 categories and two special 2-for-1 dining coupons will have you scouring the city for new places to explore this month and all year long.

But perhaps the most valuable piece of information in this year’s guide is our exclusive Metro Rankings, a compilation of statistics covering 36 cities, townships and villages, 29 area school districts and the 97 taxing units where they intersect. Staff writer Curt Wozniak’s feature on the state of regionalism in West Michigan goes beyond the numbers.

This is a special publication that you’ll want to read and save all year!
