With the school year back in full swing, don’t forget to have fun this weekend. From food to fashion to comedy, our weekend picks are sure to provide something for everyone. So get out and enjoy the nice September weather before it’s too late.

Chili Cook Off at Cottage Bar
(Saturday)

Come enjoy the sweet taste of competition as 40 cooks compete for local bragging rights. Cottage Bar, at 18 LaGrave Ave., is hosting its 36th annual chili cook off, which it says is “the biggest in the state.”

The event is free to attend. There will be live music from noon to 6 p.m., with chili sampling beginning around 3 p.m.

GRAM After Dark: Silent Dance Party
(Friday)

Always dancing to your own beat? GRAM After Dark is the place for you.

Celebrate ArtPrize Nine with a silent dance party. Grab a drink and dance the night away to one of three battling DJs—Everything AB (AB)DJ Monica Parker and COMPLETE VII.

Those who purchase tickets in advance are guaranteed headphones at the event. If purchasing tickets at the door, headphones will be first come, first served.

Enjoy a cash bar and free admission to the exhibition ArtPrize Nine at GRAM with late gallery hours. The event is free for GRAM members, $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Must be 21+ to attend.

“An Enchanted Evening” Fashion Show

Attend “An Enchanted Evening” fashion show for a spectacular night filled with one-of-a-kind couture fashion. RC Caylan, a fashion designer based in downtown Grand Rapids, presents his spring-summer 2018 collection along with items from his previous collections.

The fashion show takes place at the JW Marriot Grand Rapids on Friday, Sept. 15 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $79 to $149. Caylan is donating 50 percent of the proceeds from the show to the American Cancer Society and to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Duck Race Fundraiser
(Thursday)

Head to the Grand River tonight to watch as more than 300 large rubber ducks are sent racing down the water. This nail-biting race raises money for Pure Water for the World, a non-profit organization with the mission to improve the health and livelihood of children and families living in underserved communities in Central America and the Caribbean, by providing effective tools and education to establish sustainable safe water, hygiene and sanitation solutions.

The race starts at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Gillette Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids.

Pop Scholars at Wealthy Theatre 
(Friday)

If you’re looking for a laugh this weekend, Wealthy Theatre is the place for you.

After a three-month break, Pop Scholars is back. Based out of Grand Rapids, the four-man improv comedy team has been called a “wave of smart, culturally relevant humor that is intelligent and funny as hell.” Go check out the fast-paced, super funny comedy this Friday, Sept. 15.

Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Visit Grand Rapids Community Media Center for tickets.

Free Yoga at Briggs Park
(Saturday)

Not ready to stop enjoying the nice September weather? Head to Briggs Park this Saturday for morning yoga.

Nick Dobkowski, owner of Yogabreak, is offereing a free, hour-long, yoga class that he said is “challenging yet accessible.” Yogabreak specializes in group classes and customizable yoga for corporate events and workshops.

The session starts at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 16 near the tennis courts in Briggs Park. Bring your own yoga mat. There will be classes the following two Saturday’s as well, on Sept. 23 and Sept. 30.

Yogabreak offers free outdoor classes at Briggs Park.
