Summer will disappear into the rearview mirror quickly once the school year kicks off, so take advantage of the few weekends left to soak up the sun. There are a handful of outdoor activities taking place this weekend that we think you’ll enjoy!

Beer City Bike Fest
(Saturday)

Beer City Bike Fest is a bike-themed carnival and music festival. Hosted by The Spoke Folks, 221 Logan St. SW, this free, family-friendly event offers several games and activities, including the opportunity to participate in one of three bike races.

Music lineup: Hannah Laine, Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish, The Hoplites, Bike Tuff, Les Créatif, Lady Ace Boogie, and Cabildo.

Come hungry: Pizza Parliament will be on site all day, and Love’s Ice Cream and Mosby’s Popcorn will have snacks for purchase.

Food Truck Fridays at Riverside Park
(Friday)

There are still a few more Fridays left to take advantage of Food Truck Fridays at Riverside Park, just north of downtown Grand Rapids.  Each week a variety of food trucks lineup at the park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering up yummy cuisine. So bring a blanket, grab some food and hang out along the river.

Food Truck Fridays runs through Sept. 1.

Block Party for Children’s Healing Center
(Thursday)

MVP Metro Club is hosting a fundraiser for the Children’s Healing Center that includes a workout and block party. Movers & Shakers invites attendees to choose from one of five fitness classes followed by cocktails and appetizers.

Start your evening off with yoga, zumba, group ride, group fight or a training for warriors class. Then reward yourself after class with delicious appetizers provided by Slow’s BBQ and sip and socialize on cocktails provided by Coppercraft Distillery and The Mitten Brewing Company while browsing silent auction items.

Metro Cruise
(Friday and Saturday)

28th Street will be bumper to bumper this weekend, but you likely won’t mind this kind of traffic. The annual 28th Street Metro Cruise event attracts some of the coolest cars from the region and includes several fun activities along the 16-mile stretch taken over by the event.

Metro Cruise  kicks off with the Blessing of the Cars on Thursday at 7 p.m., at Wesley Park United Methodist Church on 32nd Street. No registration is required for this event. On Friday, Metro Cruise takes place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Rogers Plaza Town Center.

Some of the most popular Metro Cruise activities include the Pin Up Girl Final Contest held on Saturday at 11 a.m. and live band performances from The Big Boss Band, Kari Lynch, Out of Favor Boys, Stolen Horses and JetBeats. Food trucks and a trolley shuttle have been added this year along with an improved layout and a venue map to plan your family’s Metro Cruise day.

Green Gala
(Thursday)

Ride, walk or cycle to the 2017 Green Gala, a unique fundraiser advancing the work of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. This year the venue is moving to Sixth Street Park, where guests will be entertained with street musicians and a full-scale park experience while enjoying the scenic backdrop of the Grand River.

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is committed to “protect, enhance, and expand our city’s parks, public spaces, and urban forest.”

Whitecaps Harry Potter Night
